The Third Option
Universal Health Care
(The Affordable Version)
American Healthcare currently ranks number one in cost (at $4 trillion a year), but last in overall performance. Third Option Healthcare costs $1 trillion –one-fourth the current price—and is designed to be more preventive, more equitable, and more holistic (because it will thoroughly address the mental/emotional health underlying all our physical issues).
Third Option Healthcare is one-fourth the price because it applies ‘economies of scale’, removes ‘profit-seeking’ (and redundant ‘middlemen’), procures all its infrastructure, equipment and supplies at cost, and ‘nudges’ our residents to be more accountable for their own well-being. It is The Third Option’s contention that We the People’s health is not actually for sale, therefore no profit-seeking business should evolve around it. Our lives have been given to us for free; with Third Option Healthcare, We would no longer have to bargain with a capitalist in order to keep it.
Our only true obligation is to take good care of ourselves, and our healthcare professionals; The Third Option would, in fact, pay healthcare workers more than they are currently receiving, train more of them, and employ more of them, to relieve some of the stress all of us put on them, through our increasingly poor health habits. Our healthcare workers are Rock Stars, and from now on, We the People are going to be ‘all about the music’. Those other people, in the ‘suits’— the executives, distributors, sales reps, and brokers (aka ‘middlemen’), who run the healthcare “business”, and peddle $350 hip implants that cost $36,000 installed, and $40,000 defibrillators that are basically just a battery and some wire—have got to go. From now on, affordable, patient-centered, evidence-based, quality health care is the only thing we need to peddle.
Addiction is the number one and two Health Care issues Americans must overcome, and the Third Option is designed to reduce both. Foremost is Our addiction to money. Like all addictions, the first step is to admit We have a problem, and when it comes to healthcare, We have a Four Trillion dollar problem. Third Option Healthcare will solve this part of the problem.
The second part of the problem is the many consumer addictions also offered by the private sector, which—not coincidentally—drive up economic growth and private sector healthcare costs at the same time. For this, the Third Option prescription would be a dose of tough love. Per your Liberty, you would still have the right to kill yourself as fast or slow as you wish; per our Liberty, the rest of us would no longer have to pay for this. Click below to see the entire cost breakdown, plus how The Third Option would disseminate this cost in order to deliver its Healthcare System in the most ‘democratic’ manner possible: Premiums (what We all pay together), Copays (for those who specifically use Our services), and Taxes / Insurance (to cover various “risks” we take individually, that directly drive health care costs up for all).
Because Third Option Healthcare is switching plans from a profit-centered to a people-centered approach, we would naturally prefer people are healthy from now on, whenever possible. This becomes less possible when people are struggling mentally or emotionally, often through adverse childhood experiences (ACES), that either cause them to inflict harm on themselves (addiction), or on society (what we currently label ‘criminal behavior’). The following articles outline The Third Option’s plan to minimize ACES on the front end, while on the ‘back end’, show how we would treat those of us who could not be spared, in order that they might still make healthier lifestyle choices.
